Privacy policy

Last updated: September 10, 2026

Shelfolio is provided by the Shelfolio team. For privacy questions, contact devinworks2026@outlook.com.

1. About this policy

This policy describes how Shelfolio handles information in the app and on this website. It applies to the features available in the version you use. Some versions do not offer iCloud synchronization or in-app purchases. Core local library use does not require a Shelfolio account.

2. Your library and local storage

Book titles, ISBNs, authors, editions, copies, shelf locations, reading status, notes, purchase amounts, borrower names and dates, selected cover images, drafts, import reports, and recovery history are stored on your device to provide library features. Enter only information you want to keep, and avoid unnecessary personal details about other people. Shelfolio does not operate a developer-hosted server that receives your library. Device or operating-system backups may include app data according to your device settings.

3. Camera, photos, files, and reminders

Camera access is used when you scan an ISBN or photograph a cover. Barcode recognition takes place on the device; camera video is not uploaded by Shelfolio. Cover images you capture or select are saved with your library. File access handles files you choose to import or export. If you enable lending reminders, the app requests notification permission and schedules local notifications; book information may appear on your lock screen depending on your settings. You can revoke permissions in system settings and continue entering books manually.

4. Online catalog lookup

When you start an online lookup, the app sends the ISBN or search text to the German National Library (DNB, services.dnb.de) to retrieve bibliographic records. For batch lookup, it sends the queries for the batch you start. DNB necessarily receives the network connection information, including your IP address, and may retain service logs under its own policy. The app does not send your full library, private notes, borrower details, or camera video as part of this lookup. You can avoid these requests by entering book details manually. DNB privacy information.

5. Optional Apple services

If your version offers iCloud sync and you enable it, library records—including notes and lending information—cover images, locations, ordering, series plans, saved filters, and deletion markers are transferred to the private CloudKit database in your Apple account. Drafts, pending-entry queues, import reports, undo history, and local recovery history are not included in this app sync. Turning sync off stops subsequent sync attempts but does not erase existing cloud data; an operation already sent may finish. Device backups are separate from app sync.

If purchases are available, Apple processes payments. Shelfolio uses verified product, transaction, and entitlement information to unlock and restore features and retains local delivery information. It does not receive your card number or Apple account password. Apple handles its services under Apple’s privacy policy.

Automatic version checks

After launch, the app sends its app identifier, platform and current build number to our version service at app-update.458739.xyz to check for available updates. The service processes the request in real time and does not persist IP addresses, request logs or device identifiers. This request does not include your library, ISBNs, notes, covers, account or advertising identifiers. A failed check does not delete local records. When you open website, support or store links, the destination service receives the network request.

6. Exports and sharing

An exported CSV, PDF, HTML catalog, or full backup may contain personal information. PDF and HTML catalogs exclude shelf locations, notes, borrower details, and purchase prices by default unless you select them. CSV and full backups have different contents and are not governed by those catalog options. Full backups include library data and cover images. These files are not password-encrypted by Shelfolio. You choose the storage destination or recipient through the system file picker or share sheet; the selected service handles the file under its own terms.

7. Retention, deletion, and your choices

Local records remain until you delete or replace them. Deleted books may remain in Recently deleted, and earlier data can remain in recovery points, backups, or exported files. Deleting a current record does not erase those copies. Use the available permanent-delete and recovery-history controls, and delete exported files and device backups separately when no longer needed. To remove optional cloud data, use the app-data controls available in your Apple iCloud settings; disabling sync or uninstalling the app alone does not delete cloud copies. Apple manages purchase records and their retention separately.

You can review and correct your records in the app and export your library. To request access, correction, or deletion of information you have provided directly to support, use the contact channel below. We cannot remotely inspect or delete records held only on your device. Any support correspondence is used to answer your request and address the reported issue; do not send passwords or a full library backup unless necessary. Support correspondence is retained only as needed to handle the request, resolve follow-up issues, and meet applicable obligations. You may request deletion by email; we will explain if any information needs to be retained.

8. Website, tracking, and security

This website includes no analytics scripts, advertising pixels, third-party fonts, cookies, or local-storage tracking. The app includes no advertising or third-party analytics SDK. We do not sell library data or use it for advertising. A website hosting provider may process IP addresses, request paths, and browser information to deliver pages and protect the service; this technical processing depends on the service hosting the website. You can contact us for information about the hosting provider and its access logs.

We minimize transfers and use HTTPS for online catalog requests. Access to your device, Apple account, and exported files affects the protection of your records. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.

9. Children

Shelfolio is a general-purpose personal library tool and is not specifically directed to children. We do not knowingly solicit children’s personal information through support. A parent or guardian can contact support if a child has sent personal information so it can be reviewed and removed where appropriate.

10. Contact and policy changes

The service is provided by the Shelfolio team. For support, privacy questions, or requests about personal information you have provided to us, email devinworks2026@outlook.com. Email is handled through Microsoft Outlook, whose processing is described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Updates will be posted here with a revised date; material changes will be communicated through the app or website as appropriate.
